Tentang

Crowning a gentle rise on Abu Dhabi island with its ivory dome and slender pencil minaret, this beautiful house of worship carries the honoured name of the late founder era president of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, may God have mercy upon him, whose generous patronage of mosques, orphanages and charitable causes defined a whole generation of Emirati religious life across the seven emirates. The building honours the spirit of unity and generosity that guided Sheikh Khalifa, who succeeded his noble father Sheikh Zayed and continued the long project of turning the desert emirate into a settled homeland of devotion, education and quiet learning. Abu Dhabi city itself, once a modest pearling settlement along the old Trucial Coast, has welcomed seafarers, scholars and Bedouin tribes for many centuries, and its mosques proudly carry echoes of Bahraini coral masonry, Omani carved timber and Najdi geometric patterns all woven together in a single shared style. The emirate remembers early scholars such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalili, whose reminders on sincerity and charity still circulate in Emirati majalis today, and the present mosque continues that beautiful tradition with quiet daily dignity. The architecture combines a single ribbed dome, clean white arcades, finely inlaid marble flooring, carved muqarnas niches worked in white plaster, and a mihrab faced with fine calligraphy drawn from the Quranic verses of peace and tranquillity. Five The five daily salah bring together residents of the nearby neighbourhoods and many commuters from the nearby government offices and commercial quarters. The Jumu'ah prayer fills every row and spills into the shaded outer courtyards, with the sermon in Arabic followed by a short English summary for the many expatriate worshippers who live and work in the capital. The blessed month of Ramadan nights are fragrant with dates, freshly brewed Arabic coffee and rose water sherbet served to all who break the fast, and the long tarawih prayers continue into the cool desert night until well after midnight. The Eid mornings open with the takbir rising across the whole island. Travellers are welcome outside prayer times, though modest dress is strictly required, and the Sheikh Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the historical Qasr Al Hosn fortress and the Corniche promenade are all within easy reach by taxi.
